O sistema de datas em inglês é bem diferente de como usamos em português. Esteja primeiramente atento ao significado de números cardinais (que indicam quantidade) e números ordinais (que indicam ordem). Em português, falamos a data em números cardinais, por exemplo dia cinco de março (5 de março). Já em inglês, dizemos as datas sempre em números ordinais, com as variações americana e britânica. Na variação americana: March 5th (March fifth), em que o dia vem depois do mês em número ordinal. Na britânica: the 5th of March (the fifth of March) ou March the 5th (March the fifth), com artigo definido THE.
